Just this past spring, Louisville native and YPAS alumn Katie Kinman graduated summa cum laude from the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music with a BFA in Acting. Thoroughly involved in her community and always dedicated to her class, she was honored with the Danny Scholl Award for Aesthetic Leadership - presented to just one student each year.
Katie’s involvement in various artistic outlets hasn’t slowed down since graduating. Her Louisville involved past consists of runway modeling at the Kentucky Derby fashion show, performing at local theaters, maintaining captain of the dance team in middle school, playing cello at All State, sailing at the Louisville Sailing Club, doing stunts, all the way to helping out her family’s plumbing company. All together Katie has a diverse resume that has made her well rounded her into the artist she is.
Today, audiences can catch Katie in a range of projects, including Gus Van Sant’s Dead Man’s Wire, shot right here in Louisville with an impressive cast of Bill Skarsgård, Dacre Montgomery, Al Pacino, Coleman Domingo, Cary Elwes My’hala, and more.
Katie’s path to this moment began unexpectedly with a chance encounter at LEX Studios crossing paths with casting director Kathy Campbell.
What began as an assistant position soon became life-changing: before filming even began, Kathy was gathering short audition videos of local actors to introduce Louisville’s talent to the director.
While on set as part of the casting team, producers approached Katie and revealed that Gus Van Sant wanted her to play opposite Dacre Montgomery. “They kept looking and I thought I was in trouble,” Katie recalls, “but instead they told me Gus wanted me in the film!”
In addition to her acting, Katie has also built an impressive career as part of the Campbell Talent Casting team, contributing to over 17 various different projects this past year, including some that have gone on to Cannes, Venice, and TIFF. #502Film
The Voice Magazine's October issue was proud to present Katie as the cover feature. She was photographed at The Splattery by Antonio Pantoja--one of her mentors, collaborator and friend, wearing bold body paint designed by celebrated local artist Matt Goodlett--who Katie met on the first film she worked on in Louisville! The result is a striking visual collaboration that showcases Katie’s range of movement, presence, and artistry—not only as a model, but as a performer whose creativity defies boundaries.
Katie Kinman embodies the kind of fluid artistry that Louisville is proud to share with the world.
